Pretties preview!

Hi again! I have been so busy moving this past week. We are still unpacking here at the new place and cleaning up the old place. I did manage to snap a picture of some of the fabrics I will use for my daughter and me! I got several character prints at the hancock store closing sale. Can't beat 70% off character prints! The fabrics for my son are either in the wash or they walked off when I attempted to photograph them. I just want to take a minute and stress the importance of pre-washing fabrics before you sew with them. Fabrics shrink! Some may shrink a little some shrink a lot. My poor friend order a quilted baby blanket off Etsy for her daughter. After the first wash, she posted a picture on Facebook to ask what was wrong with the quilt. The quilt had minky as well as cottons together. It was obvious that the seller did not pre-wash the minky and it shrunk in the wash but the cotton didn't shrink as much. My friend was left with a horrible misshapen quilt. When you take the chance not pre-washing fabric that you are using to make a garment you risk the garment shrinking after washing and becoming unwearable! Don't waste your pretty fabric and time! Pre-wash all your fabrics!

Kids shared their germs!

My stinkers share some icky germs with me. They bounced back so quickly. Me...not so much! I went to urgent care and caught it while it was just a sinus infection. One ear is on the verge of being an ear infection. :( I am now resting in bed. Thanks to my awesome mama! I have been perusing pinterest. I love all the fall looks on pinterest and I can't wait to make some pinterest inspired outfits! Have you done a pinterest inspired outfit? If so please share in the comments or share which pin you would like to make an inspire outfit from!
This is my pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/finleysmommy/
I have an entire board of fall looks (https://www.pinterest.com/finleysmommy/cool-and-breezy-styles/) that I would like to make! I even pinned some of the patterns I plan to use!
This one I am most excited about trying to recreate! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/131941464062277571/

Next blog I will share a picture of my stack of fabric! We are moving this weekend into a bigger place! I will be sharing a bedroom space with my husband. His computer desk will get a corners then my fabric and sewing machine will get the rest!! I am so excited about getting some good space to set up to sew. I will need it for this challenge!

I am off to take some medicine and go to bed early!

Patterns

It is so hard to choose which patterns to use. I want to use them all and make all the things! I am trying my best not to buy anymore fabric. A few days ago I compiled a list of patterns I would like to use. I am making clothes specially for fall. Here in lower......I mean super low!!...we don't have much of a fall. Sometimes it will be nice and cool other times we are still wearing shorts at Christmas!! Seriously I have worn shorts to my family's Christmas gathering! I try to find pieces that can be layered or made with a lightweight fabric. So here is my list!
Clothing patterns:
-Patterns for Pirates: Sweet T, Sugar pie, Henley, Peg Legs, and a mashup with the Free Spirit Tank
-Peekaboo Patterns- Cape Cod, Boardwalk Henley, Day Camp T-shirt, A modified Lullaby line overall, and Skip-a-long skort
-Jocole Patterns- Pencil skirt, Womens peplum, Girls peplum, and Quick dress
-Made for Mermaids- Harper Dress
-Candy Castle Patterns- Bubble gum swing dress
-Brindle & Twig- Flutter Sleeve Tunic
-Shwin and Shwin- Lucy Top

Non clothing item:
Pillowcase (so my 21 month old will stop stealing mine!)
Doll sling
Dino tail
Cloth napkins
Cloth Baby diapers

My goal is 31 handsewn things in 31 days. Some patterns I will use more than once. Some days I may sew a few things in one day so I can have a day off for running errands and such. My oldest starts Pre-k in August and my husband is still training for his new job which means long hours some weeks. I even included some birthday sewing as my children's birthday's arenat the end of September and mid October!! Now to prep all of my fabrics and start printing out patterns!!

God Bless,
Kathryn

So it begins!

Y'all my husband thinks I am crazy! I shared my plans for August with him yesterday. The Hancock Fabric store closing sale was wonderful....too wonderful! I have all this fabric and I just keep piling it up. I have decided to challenge myself. There are 31 days in August and I will be sewing up something new everyday! Follow along here. I will share my completed projects and the uh ohs I am sure that will occur. Over the next few weeks I am going to print out the patterns I plan to use and cut out the pattern pieces. Last summer, I found it so much easier to take a few days and cut out all the pattern pieces. Once I cut out the pieces I place each set in a ziplock bag and label it! Once I finalize my list of patterns I will share them and add links so you can check out these AMAZING pattern designers!

But first here is a link to my etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ScreechingDinosaur
A little about me and my shop. I started out embroidering children's shirts over 6 years ago. Crazy to think it was that long ago. My cousin taught me and I fell in love! I bought my own machine in November '10. She has been my baby ever since. I still love adding sweet monograms and appliques to my children's clothing but I have found a new love with towels. I will be adding more towel options in the coming months. Men & teenage boys are so darn hard to shop for! The butt/face towels are perfect for them. I have come up with some new guy gifts so be on the look out for them. I will share them here and on my facebook page when they are added to Etsy.

Thank y'all for joining me on this crazy adventure! I can't wait to share my projects!

God Bless,
Kathryn
